Capturing the beauty of KG
I always feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to photoshoots, I am definitely not in my comfort zone, and despite all efforts leading up to the big day, it never ends up straight forward, nor without a little nervous tension from the team.
I guess we are all trying to capture the essence of the brand in just one day, and “those shots” are more than often gained when we least expect. Having done this now for ten years, and working with exactly the same visual team, we know each other like family, which is a bonus because it certainly contributes to the overall success of the day. The vision has never changed since that first ever photoshoot other than we have grown substantially, but the essence remains, we want to visually capture our brand which stands for exceptionally created, timeless garments, for all women, no matter size, shape or background. It is my passion to encourage all women to feel and be their best. And made to measure garments assist with this, by allowing women to have customised garments produced, just for them – because I know you are all worth it.
Having grown up in Rockhampton, I can honestly say, I was never exposed to comparison, competitiveness, or judgement. It was more about just being you, and also accepting of anyone that you came in contact with. A lot of the population was aboriginal, and there were also many different cultures as well as Australians, but we never had to justify who we were or where we came from – we just accepted and were happy.
Perhaps that is why I am an active advocate of beauty being about all shapes and sizes and truly believing that each of us women deserves to celebrate not only our bodies but who we are as women. Positive body image is great, but I find it is more a movement, and at times it is unattainable to be positive every single day, we all have days that we don’t feel ourselves, are critical to oneself, or just generally not feeling our best. And this is perfectly fine. So what I try harder to advocate is body acceptance, meaning accepting that you are not perfect, accepting that you will have self critical days, but also being able to celebrate when you are feeling great, and recognise what your amazing body is able to do. Where your body can take you.
There is certainly a buzz around the KG Photoshoot, it is our biggest ever, with an expanded team joining us for the day. Obviously, visually we like to make it look as effortless as possible, however, as many of you could appreciate, the work and time that goes into these photoshoots are massive. Photographers, Hair and Makeup Team, Social Content Staff, Models, Stylists, and we even have a wonderful choeographer joining us this time. Each have a really important role on the day to bring it all together. I do love each and every person that is part of the brand, and I just would not have it any other way. I am a big believer in having positive, like-minded people around you to ensure you feel supported and you are able to support them. Although my name is the brand, the brand’s success is made up of many names, whom I am very proud to call the KG Team.
The energy on photoshoot day is fantastic and the reward of seeing it all come together is priceless. Stay tuned and soon we will be sharing many new styles across our KG platforms and of course the much-anticipated launch of Geenies.
